"He can taste your fear."

The Creeper is the carnivorous monster that has to feed on human flesh for 23 days every 23 years. It's his last day before disappearing again for 23 years. This time, he's targeting a school bus... The monster terrorizes a group of basketball players, cheerleaders and coaches stranded on a deserted highway due to a flat tire. The students panic because the bus can't go any further and the Creeper circles around them. They try to control their own fears and prejudices as they hide inside the bus to avoid the monster's clutches. Help is on the way, but it seems unavoidable that a number of students will become victims of his last feast...

With the unexpected success of Jeepers Creepers, it was of course quite certain that there had to be a sequel. So two years later there was Jeepers Creepers 2. And like the first movie, the opening scene is immediately intriguing, with Ray Wise's son in a cornfield with three scarecrows. A very strong sequence, which sets the tone very well.

But then our main characters are introduced and you spontaneously get homesick for Darry and Trish from the first film. Salva flicked a whole bunch of guys on a bus and gave some of them something recognizable; one has glasses, another may be gay and yet another is an asshole. There is no more character development, by the way, the 200-year-old bodies that the Creeper has in the basement of his church have more personality and charisma. I've seen the movie several times now, but still don't know who is who. Incidentally, Salva doesn't seem really interested in that either, as long as the men take off their shirts a lot. He's thrown in a few ladies for diversity, one of whom suddenly has dreams about the monster, so she can explain to everyone what's going on.

Every now and then we go back to Ray Wise, a genuinely good addition to a movie like this. But Salva doesn't want to use it too much and always cuts back to those totally uninteresting figures on that bus. The only one who provides some entertainment there is the Creeper, this time less mysterious; we see him grinning and practically winking at the camera. Mister Creeper is no longer scary, but it is still amusing to see him hunting these meaningless characters. And luckily Ray Wise returns here and there for some action, which sometimes makes Jeepers Creepers 2 a fairly amusing monster movie. But then I would rather have just watched Ray Wise vs The Creeper for 80 minutes - à la Dennis Hopper vs Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2.

2.5 stars.

Same.

Not a much better sequel to an already quite disappointing first part. The setting was there, I like teenagers who are hunted by monsters anyway. So here it started pretty well, with nice nasty types again and the creeper (who still looks funny) returning again.

But this also failed. Especially since you expected it all to be a bit more challenging. More gore, more kills, etc. This film actually didn't have much to offer, and so it quickly fails. Luckily it wasn't all that boring which made it quite interesting.

Disappointment, not really suspenseful but because it was all a bit more entertaining than 1 it gets the same score. A film that at the end does feel like a project from which much more could have been done.

Away with the mystery of part 1 ... even the tune is no longer involved ... the authors fiddle with a lot of ideas they have but they only half manage to create a consistent franchise from the ground. Jeepers Creepers II has become a raunchy horror film in which the flesh-eating demon circles almost all the time above a group of sporty college students, and every now and then one is plucked into the air. But it is not easy for the creeper... this time he encounters hard resistance. There are some more gore special effects to see and the monster is very beautifully designed but I still missed the tension because here it is all nice and predictable. The ending was also fat. They should have stuck with this; a third movie was really not necessary.
