”We must, we must, we must increase our bust”

Witty, heart-warming film about a young teenager who enters puberty, overwhelmed by mental and physical doubts and looking for certainties higher up. A candid coming-of-age film starring Abby Ryder Fortson. Rachel McAdams as her mother and Kathy Bates as her grandmother are not inferior to her. You automatically have a good feeling about it. Delicious.

Nice, sympathetic coming-of-age film about eleven-year-old Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson), who moves from New York to New Jersey in the 1970s, where she has to get used to her new living environment. Smoothly told, often very comical and nicely portrayed, although the whole is sporadically a bit too light-hearted to really make an impression. In any case, it is not due to the excellent cast. Fortson is exceptionally well cast in the lead role and Rachel McAdams is very funny as her mother.

It's 1969. 11-year-old Margaret [Abby Ryder Fortson] is shocked when her father [Benny Safdie] and mother [Rachel McAdams] decide to move from New York to New Jersey. Fortunately, she quickly befriends girl next door and classmate Nancy [Elle Graham], who even invites her to join a secret society with Janie [Amari Alexis Price] and Gretchen [Katherine Mallen Kupferer]. They talk about boys and wait for the first signs of their femininity: growing breasts and menstruation. When Margaret begins to feel that she is falling behind the pack, she turns to God for help. Although religion is a theme, it is certainly not central to this delightful coming-of-age film with a convincing young cast, led by the phenomenal Fortson. A light-hearted but authentic portrait of girls on the threshold of puberty, with a perfect denouement and a pleasant soundtrack full of 60s classics.
