I too take a walk through the French horror films. Where at Martyrs is with dot at number 1. The strength of this film, for me, is mainly in the psychological effect. Time has been neatly taken for this and provides the necessary extra dimension. 3.5

Frontiére(s) is a very nice French horror, which offers nothing new or original, but is very nicely developed.

The similarities with Texas Chainsaw Massacre are indeed striking, although that film does have a somewhat grayer and more realistic atmosphere. This movie is often very over-the-top. Everything in the film is nicely portrayed, not only in terms of violence and gory, but in fact pretty much the entire look of the film is like that. The filthy toilets, the pigsties, the mud wrestling, and so on, there were more raunchy details.

Visually, the film is also quite good. Those blue color filters on the outside and the yellowish inside do create a certain atmosphere and the editing was also very tight. Still, there are plenty of better French horror films. For example, the whole family didn't like much, with the Nazi grandfather as the low point, who, by the way, proves that the French can't speak German at all besides English. A very nice slaughter film and still 3.5*.
