Eight Legged Freaks plot
"Do you hate spiders? Do you really hate spiders? Well they don't like you either."
The inhabitants of a mining village discover that a chemical accident has caused hundreds of small spiders to mutate into hungry monsters several meters in size. It's up to miner Chris McCormack and Sheriff Sam Parker to get a group of people together to fight the bloodthirsty beasts. Among them are the children of the sheriff (Mike and Ashley) and the paranoid radio producer Harlan.

Stays fun. Not only because of the nostalgia (typical such a video rental product from the early 2000's, seen a lot of this kind of pulp at the time), but also because it is demonstrably better than its peers. Watched a shitload of similar films from (approximately) the same period a while back and that was not always easy to digest. Eight Legged Freaks is a prototype B monster/beast movie; one big, bland and predictable rumination. And that is exactly what you can/want/must expect.

Comedic horror film with giant spiders terrorizing a small town. The humor is mainly in the way the characters go to war against the spiders, and the sometimes stupid ways in which they do this. The sounds the spiders make are faint, but it's so childish that it sometimes made me laugh too. The downside is that they never really get scary. The actors don't have to do much, but especially Arquette, Wuhrer and Doug E. Doug know how to make a lot of it. And it's nice to see a young Scarlett Johansson in these kinds of movies. Every actor has to start somewhere...

That's funny.
For a horror/comedy, I think this movie is really underrated. I had a lot of fun watching this movie at times. He is exaggerated, does not take himself seriously and remains smooth throughout the entire playing time.
Surprisingly good cast for a movie like this, totally unexpected. Arquette is reasonable, but what struck me most was that Johansson also plays a role. The spiders often look a bit woody, but that doesn't matter. The humor was often exaggerated, but also funny at times.
Just a funny monster movie that never bored me for a moment.
