Asian swordsman in a western setting with a touch of romance and as opponents a clan of flying ninjas. Superficial story and action scenes. Little depth in characters and CGI clearly present to bring color. Atmosphere abounds though. Nice design, but poorly acted. Doesn't bore, but shouldn't last any longer either.

Ugh, what a mess. The CGI is terrible, rarely seen such a monstrosity in recent years, and the story is unfortunately not special either. To find the warrior in America, his enemies just have to wait and listen. A colonel who only rapes women with beautiful teeth. And what is that baby supposed to represent? What daring nonsense. Yes, there's still some stylized action at the end... still decent even if it's all CGI here too. And luckily there was still some action, otherwise I would probably have been bored to death. I've diligently flushed here and there to shorten my annoyance.

Okay.

The film turned out to be more fun than I thought. You always have to wait and see with these kinds of movies to see if they will catch on or not, but I think Asian and American culture has never mixed well in movies. It's too much in itself and those styles are difficult to merge, but Lee fortunately comes a long way.

I'm a big fan of the layout of this movie. Very nice settings, great cinematography and a good flow in action. Everything runs smoothly and pleasantly. For a long time it is really only focused on entertainment with lots of action and a special environment. Dong-gun is a somewhat predictable hero, but his fighting techniques are good (if he was allowed to do that himself).

Unfortunately, the film eventually gets bogged down in practices that go too slowly. Adding sentiment and romance is incredibly inhibiting. Also removes the nice flow and that is mainly waiting until another nice action scene appears. They make an impression, but how the relationship between Bosworth and Dong-gun develops is completely stolen from me.

The finale is nice again, but the alternation between very clumsy romantic images and subtle fight scenes is not going well at all. Normally these kinds of films are worth a 2.5* from my side, but the cinematography is really too far above average to rate this film with an unsatisfactory. I also love visual images, and there are plenty of those here.
