"This house knows what makes you tick."

The middle of the 20th century. A young orphan named Lewis Barnavelt comes to live with his Uncle Jonathan in his creaky old house. However, it is not an ordinary house, but a house where the furniture, the stained glass windows and other aspects of it come to life, as well as the beating heart that resides in the center and has the power to end the world.

Just saw the LA premiere. Nice movie for the Halloween period. It is certainly not a horror, but more of a horror film with a lot of fantasy and a high family content. Casting is fine, visually it's brilliant and there's humor in it too. 4****

Fine film in which a possible catastrophe, fantasy, tension and friendship play a major role between several generations. Funny thing is, the gap between the generations is virtually absent. Fantasy is an important ingredient in this film and you should also have it yourself because events happen that we (unfortunately?) will never experience.

That will also play a role in these kinds of films, the absence of reality and which the viewer can enjoy. We enjoyed these folks and the story in which they played a part. The young man Lewis moves in with his uncle Jonathan in a creaky old house. Of course it is not an ordinary house, in the first instance it is an old house with an interior in which I wanted to move in right away. Everything can come to life, in the film an old armchair plays a 'main' role and sometimes quite stepped on its 'legs'. And then the appearance of the house, 'stained glass' and a fairly dark color of everything around the resident. Great for a horror movie. And that's what this movie is for the kids. You should not let the very youngest look at this yet.

And then there's the 'present' that one of the previous residents left behind. This is something that can have a destructive effect on the world and its inhabitants.

Now it's up to Lewis, his uncle Jonathan and girlfriend Florence to make sure this is prevented. A 7+.

Nice family horror film for not too young children. The story is not very original and predictable, but is well developed by Roth. The build-up is good and the tension is slowly built up to a nice climax where all brakes are released. Black and Blanchett are well attuned to each other. The special effects are good and the house with everything on it looks visually beautiful. Great entertainment.
