So!

More than 15 years too late (no idea what just came up, but something got in the way of our trip to the cinema). That alone makes it a movie I've always wanted to see again. That and the fact that I always have fun with Mario games. I'm not a huge fan, but I've played most platformers.

Indeed a fairly difficult concept to make a live action out of. A goomba is nothing more than a pyramid with two legs below, which does not translate so easily to a man in a suit. Instead of going in the completely ridiculous direction, they have once again tried to give a more realistic image to most of the characters.

In the end, there isn't a lot of Mario either. Because names, half a mustache (and one mustache short) and some well-known references on billboards and such. Whoo! For the first half of the film, Luigi just walks around in red clothes all the time. Such simple things can hardly be forgiven a film like this.

Also very bad acting and really bad effects. The enemies looked really bad, terrible accents and really completely dull characters. Also clearly aimed at the American market (Daisy Peach).

Film thunders like a derailed and completely failed Ghostbusters variant to a disastrous end. It all takes a bit too long, this one is more than worth its flop hype.

It's a pity that there are hardly any references to spot for fans of the games. Enough fun tunes and other things (a few green pipes or something) that could have brightened the film up a bit.

A real dragon (yes) of a movie. 0.5*

In a jolly mood I once saw whether the film was really as bad as claimed. I don't know if I'm so happy now that I have the answer, because indeed...it's not really good. Wink Nevertheless, I still had a good laugh at this attempt at deepening the characters from the mario universe (huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!?).

Pretty cool movie, much better than expected given the immensely low scores here.

I can't imagine that kids who saw the movie in 1993 thought it was bad.

Very entertaining, never bored me. Reminded me a bit of Schumacher's Batman films, partly because of those bland one-liners.

It didn't bother me at all that it had nothing to do with the games.

Nice.
