Mediocre film in which Freddy Kreuger rises from the dead to continue his revenge on the teenagers. The budget is clearly higher and that has an advantage here. Freddy Kreuger himself is also more in the picture and Robert Englund also plays nicely with this. The film starts off well, but at a certain point it becomes more of the same.

Don't understand why I gave this 1.5 stars on the first viewing, because it's certainly not that bad.

Friendly.

Renny Harlin. The director who does a little bit of everything, but he doesn't do it very well in everything he does. His contribution to this series is nevertheless a worthy part, but it is not the best of the series. The most expensive, and that may sometimes be clear thanks to the bombastic noise.

In terms of stunts and effects, this part is an improvement over the other parts. Everything looks good, and mainly practical. Certainly the latter makes a pleasant contribution to the film, because you are really still in the era before everything was unnecessarily resolved with animated violence in more modern horror films. The reason directors like Kostanski are so valued by some, they don't like CGI.

Freddy continues to be comical. His presence is especially beneficial in comedy, and is therefore still less of a threat, but an entertaining appearance nonetheless. He also still gets enough space to be really fun. A lesser appearance is the new main character, Wilcox. Bad actress who makes a totally uninteresting appearance.

The story is fairly messy and unnecessarily complex at some points, but otherwise it remains entertaining despite the fact that it starts a bit slow. The good thing is that the final can go wild visually, where the bombast takes over the whole thing and the story ignores it. Nice fast action with a lot of noise, and it finally works in favor.

In addition, the film is also not too long and it is easy to look away. This isn't going to be really brilliant cinema anytime soon, and the film does have quite a few annoying characters. The main advantage that this film has is the high budget, which manages to provide a lot of beautiful things. In terms of content, Harlin can't do much about it, he does present it in a nice package, and that's what counts with this series I think.

Freddy is back and you always wonder...how? The answer is that money had to be made again of course...but this sequel is pretty good.

The character Kristen previously played by Patricia Arquette (her replacement almost as hot) is also back and being can still take others into her dreams. This dreamwalking seems to be possible, but in reverse: visiting other people's dreams. But the main character is now Alice, a real daydreamer, as we also see in films like Walter Mitty. A nice idea is that she also has another gift: not only does she have more control over what happens in the dream, she takes over powers from her friends when they fall prey to Freddy 1 by 1. In the end we even get to see a typical 80s gear up scene before the final battle, complete with 80s hard rock... nice!

The kills aren't as creative as in part 3, many seem uninspired but one stands out in how bizarre and gross it is...that cockroach scene, damn! And with the one with that waterbed you see again that not everything necessarily happens in the dream world.

The final scene in which Krueger is attacked is also really bizarre and well done. Robert Englund is back to clapping as usual. Because of Krueger's invariable one-liners, the Elm Streets are more comical and gross than scary, yet the concept (you can't go to sleep, just like in Invasion of the Body Snatchers) remains strong. An Elm street film seems as good as the creator's imagination.

I could appreciate the typical chilling 80s synth sounds that gave the horror scenes even more atmosphere.

It must have been a good exercise for Renny Harlin, he later very skilfully made Die Hard 2 and some more action films such as The Long Kiss Goodnight.

The hip hop amateurs at the end credits are not to be listened to by the way.
