Very nice sequel, which is just a bit stronger than the first part. Part 1 may have had a more focused story, but this sequel has more locations, more humor, and most importantly, a bigger role for the side characters. It's no longer just focus on Woody and Buzz, the other toys are now also getting their moments. Some fun new characters are also introduced. And there is a minimal presence of sung songs, which I appreciate. Animation is nicely done and colorful, and the voice work also remains strong. Tom Hanks in particular as Woody remains great.

They are and remain very fun and charming animation films, this Toy Story series. 3.5* for part 2.

The animation technique has clearly improved since the revolutionary Toy Story, but this sequel contains too few surprises to compete with its predecessor. Woody [Tom Hanks] and Buzz Lightyear [Tim Allen] are now good friends, but that friendship is tested when toy collector Al [Wayne Knight] steals Woody and puts him in a museum. Woody discovers that he once starred in a popular children's series with sidekick Jessie [Joan Cusack] and co-star Stinky Pete [Kelsey Grammer]. While Buzz leads an expedition to rescue Woody, Woody wonders if he shouldn't stick with his old gang. Partly a repeat of Toy Story where the supporting characters can no longer provide surprises. The enthusiastic Cusack is an enrichment of the franchise and voice actors once again deliver an excellent job. Despite the lack of originality, this is still great entertainment for the whole family.

The film dates from 23 years ago and you can see that in the animation. Obviously wear is coming. Toy Story still aims at a young audience and keeps it pretty good with a playful film reference here and there. The story is quite simple and has less charm and adventure than the predecessor. It's not bad, and the movie references make up for it. But it is nevertheless an animation from the last century that has not quite survived the test of time.
