It all starts very nice, but as soon as the human roles take over the story and also start overacting, it unfortunately becomes a lot less.
Not as bad as Letters to Santa, fortunately the film also contains nice scenes and fortunately lasts just under an hour and a half. It is a film that is easy to sit through, but where the easy way of telling and simple acting has been chosen.
The whole god story just doesn't work, nothing against Whoopi Goldberg but it didn't really fit.

Final verdict:
It's going to be fun for once.
2.5*

Not quite successful. When I put on a Christmas movie I expect a nice warm Christmas atmosphere, and this movie is certainly the opposite during the first half. The film is rather depressing and you don't expect that from a muppet film. It is a not entirely successful muppet variant of It's a Wonderful Life (1946), but as a parody of it there are some missed opportunities. I also didn't think the cast completely fit their characters, Whoopi Goldberg seems more suitable to play the role of the angel than the role of God. The humor was also on the sparse side. A big difference with the great A Muppet Family Christmas (1987) where you will find a merry Christmas atmosphere, a fast pace and a high joke density. 2.5*

A Very Boring Muppet Christmas Movie, more like it.

Muppets movies aren't really known for being cinematic anyway, but sometimes there's still a nostalgic factor when you saw them as a kid, or a contemporary version is really fun and touchingly performed (like The Muppets (2011)). This movie didn't have that.

I especially wonder who it was made for. For children, the whole plot with the money-hungry Joan Cusack will not give a damn. There's too little to laugh at for adults and the references are easygoing and bland. As makers you can pick up on (then) popular films, celebs and TV series (Scrubs, A Beautiful Mind, Moulin Rouge), but nowadays it is quite dated. A cameo from Triumph the Insult Dog won't mean much to most people, just to name a few.

A (quite obvious) 'ode' to It's a Wonderful Life manages to save the film somewhat in the second half, but otherwise it was nothing to write home about.
