The first thing I thought before watching this film was: 'Can a film about a solid subject be interesting, fascinating or exciting?' My answer was reasonable afterwards: the film doesn't really get exciting anywhere and everything looks a bit predictable. I think the touch of humor that the film sometimes has is completely misplaced. Still, in a certain way, the film managed to fascinate me again, probably because of the excellent cast, in which for me personally Clooney and Blanchett excelled the most.

I particularly liked the acting of George Clooney in combination with his colleague 'Monuments Man' Donald Jeffries. However, this does not take away from the fact that the film continues to ripple and sometimes resembles a war history story at school. On the other hand, my expectations were not very high beforehand and I found the subject interesting.

Pluses are certainly that the film is nice to look at (because of the fast successive perspectives from different places in the beginning of the film you immediately feel comfortable in it) and the ending of the film for me personally.

3 *

Finished with difficulty. Very tiring and rather rudderless film, especially very meat and fish. Because what is the point now? A drama/thriller or slapstick/comedy? Certain aspects in the film and atmosphere are reminiscent of the former, but other moments and especially the choice of actors such as Goodman and especially Murray is reminiscent of the latter. Here and there a few very nice moments such as when the men land on the beach and an eye for details such as weapons, uniforms, weapons and decor. After the question: what should it represent, the question quickly arises: what could it have been? What it is: a missed opportunity.

Pleasant adventure film in which an Allied unit tries to save works of art that have been looted by the Germans in the last days of the Third Reich. A lot of attention is paid to a few Belgian works: the Mystic Lamb, the Madonna with child... The film sometimes reminded me of the old war/adventure films from the 1960s, because here too there is a sporadic moment of humor. Perhaps a little more could have been taken out in terms of suspense and intrigue, but Monuments Men has not disappointed me and goes by smoothly
