The Good Girl

Dull and long-winded film about a woman who is done with her hopeless life and starts an affair with a colleague. With disastrous consequences. Disastrous is actually not the right word, because the film slowly ripples along without anything startling happening. That may be realistic, but it does make for a very annoying film. Aniston is good and C. Reilly is also strong as a wimpy husband. I thought Gyllenhaal was annoying for a change.

This drama is very heavy. Every quarter of an hour there is a little extra misery. Then at a certain point you think: yes, now I know. Like everything is just a little too thick. The misery, the sadness, the boredom at work. And you can see that they tried to make a comedy out of it, but that doesn't come across very well and actually doesn't fit the film at all. Too bad, because otherwise an atmospheric film with a nice location, nice story and a pretty strong acting Anniston. Gyllenhaal looked a little pale against that. And Reilly is just too comical for the part. I wasn't bored, but this could have been a good movie. 2.5*.
