More interesting than good. The problem with this film, I think, is the miscasting of Eddie Redmayne, who fails to credibly appear transgender in my opinion. The contrast with the convincing role of Alicia Vikander is too great. Unfortunately.

“I love you, because you are the only person who made sense of me. And made me, possible.”

Reviewed on Netflix. The strongest point of The Danish Girl is the great chemistry between Redmayne and Vikander. They are not easy roles, but the interplay of Redmayne and Vikander really makes you completely immersed in the story of Gerda and Einar/Lili.

Vikander in particular steals the show, and she once again proves that she is one of the best actresses of her generation. Redmayne is a bit more expressive and exuberant in his acting, but that fits the role of Einar/Lili. Hooper's direction is solid and the cinematography in particular stands out in a positive sense. The love triangle between Einar, Gerda and Hans (Schoenaerts) doesn't come out well, but then there is such a powerful last scene between Redmayne and Vikander and you forget it right away. What a masterclass in acting they give in that scene.

So, the message is heavily rammed in. After the break I secretly went to have a beer at the bar, so actually I'm not allowed to vote, but I'm doing it anyway.
