I really thought this was one of the best movies I've seen lately. Normally I'm never a big fan of the Oscar winning movies, because I often find them quite boring. But Spotlight kept me on the edge of my seat because the story was well presented and interesting. Also the acting (Mark Ruffalo, great!) is excellent. Finally, an impressive story is well filmed.

Better than expected.

Spotlight is a fairly dry story, but that is exactly where the strength of this film lies. It's a story without much fuss, without much added "suspense" or nonsensical build-ups. That is not always the case in similar films.

The only one that stands out a bit is Ruffalo, he puts down a somewhat weird and sometimes annoying, thick-set type. Maybe it's based on an actual person, but it just never felt really believable within the movie.

But otherwise thoroughly enjoyed it. No secret encounters at ponds, mysterious leads or someone who tries to mine everything from the shadows, but a bunch of journalists like you hope and expect that there are more who throw themselves fully into a story and thus bring something fairly sad to the surface.

McCarthy normally makes more striking films, but that dryness is what makes this film a success, so for once I can forgive him for that.

3.5*

Awesome movie! I love it when there isn't a hole in a movie, Doubt for example, but the movie still keeps you interested.

Extremely calm and skillfully constructed drama about a rather heavily loaded theme. Despite the latter, the film never becomes very heavy, but it remains modest and there is enough room left to gain insight into the problem, the consequences and the approach. Great roles from Keaton and Ruffalo.

A really nice movie.
