Not bad, but...

... again not really convincing. An attempt is made to sow some ambiguity by making the storylines stand out against each other, but that was not necessary. It gives the film a pretentious tone, while I prefer to see mosaic films simple but sincere.
The Burning Plain is therefore made worthwhile by some strong standalone scenes, but as a whole it lacks quality to linger.

It won't be the cast, though. While only Jennifer Lawrence really impresses, Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger aren't bad either. The casting of Theron and Lawrence as the same person I think is a serious miss, because they have a very different kind of face.

But The Burning Plain is above all a beautifully portrayed film. Cinematography can only be enjoyed here: the contrast between the sultry and sun-drenched past with the gray present cannot be greater. Especially the scenes from the first group are fantastically filmed. The plane scenes and the explosion stand out.
Musically I was left feeling hungry again.

Fragmentary story which, because of the editing method, asks the viewer to see connections between the different stories. The film is gripping and has moving moments, with strong acting (especially Charlize Theron and certainly Kim Basinger). The cinematography and landscapes are also a feast for the eyes and all in all it is just a very good film.

The films of this director appeal to me, so I also gave this one a try. I didn't think he was wrong, but he seemed a little sluggish. He certainly doesn't have the fastest pace. Fortunately, the cast still makes up for a lot and in the end the stories were also quite fascinating, especially when the puzzle pieces fall into place.

I had to get into it a bit, but in the end I thought it was worth it.
