"Why bother with suicide?"
A mysterious, suicidal Japanese man comes into contact with a Thai woman through a tragic series of events. The woman is everything he is not: he is someone who never gets dirty dishes and keeps all his books neatly stored and neatly arranged. She dresses like a slob, smokes marijuana and never cleans up. Still, it's a combination that works well for some reason.

Nice movie and a lot better than Invisible Waves, the only other movie I've seen by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang so far.
It starts off slow, but gets better and better after that. I never think Tadanobu Asano is strong, but here he is very good. The same can be said for his co-star and I have to say that I think it's a nice duo.
The cinematography is very good and especially the dreamy scene where the garbage is flying through the air, I really loved to watch. There is some nice, subtle humor intertwined here and there. It creates a nice atmosphere, where the beautiful soundtrack certainly contributes to the whole.
So it's a great film and sometimes that slow pace can be quite nice, as is proven here once again.

Not quite my thing.
Very slow and visually not much to see. That combination is deadly for me here. Due to some nice scenes, partly due to strong acting, it certainly remains entertaining. Everything is not put down ready-made and that's nice, but in the end it all just doesn't matter enough.
Was hoping for more from my first encounter with Pen-Ek. I also have Invisible Waves laying around, so maybe I like it better.
