Yet another film about a lost boxing glory, but this one does hold a surprise in store.

Unfortunately, the film is going to be watered down at the end by going on a sentimental tour and it actually also comes across as unbelievable.

Samuel L. Jackson is also sometimes wrong. Like in this rag from a Drama movie.

In this story, sports reporter Erik Kernan Jr. (Josh Hartnett) to the rescue of a homeless person who is being mistreated on the street. He discovers that the homeless man is believed to be boxing legend Champ (Samuel L. Jackson) and Erik sees his chance to write the ultimate sports article.

The story is based on a true story, but the screenwriters have taken quite a few liberties. The result is moralistic and sentimental and only the role of Samuel L. Jackson (talks in an annoying squeaky voice) has to save the film, which unfortunately doesn't really work.

Josh Hartnett routinely interprets this account of Eric Kernan Jr., a young sports journalist who sees his chance when he meets a homeless person nicknamed Champ [Samuel L Jackson]. It concerns Bob Satterfield, a once respected boxer who, among others, took on Jake LaMotta. But the people Eric contacted to learn more about Satterfield were all convinced that the former boxer has been dead for some time.

A mediocre drama with a basic element that isn't too intriguing. While it takes some getting used to hearing Jackson speak in a squeaky voice, he delivers a sympathetic rendition that keeps things afloat.
