"Her world is a deadly place"
A father lives with his young daughter Rag in a world in the wake of a deadly pandemic. When the two become trapped in the forest, the man tries to do everything he can to protect Rag's innocence. This puts their mutual bond to the test.

Very good movie. In its genre, of course, because it's so perfectly balanced when it could easily have gone off the rails, but especially in terms of the father-daughter dynamics, the intimacy of their relationship and conversations, which are deep (as far as they can be) and particularly touching from the very first story the father tells his daughter in the tent. I was immediately grabbed. Casey Affleck puts unmistakably high quality on the shelf here.
Add to that the beautiful landscapes, the beautiful photography and framing, and as a result of all that there is a universal eloquence that lifts the film to a higher level (and in my top 3 of last year). The rather low rating here is therefore difficult to understand.
Moreover, the film is 'light' enough, it is easy to look away. Not necessarily in its classic Hollywood style with cheesy one-liners and propulsive plot (although the story is still told linearly and even some one-liners return but of the meaningful kind) - but because of the stillness, the roughness, the intimacy of the story. It reminded me somewhat of Wind River from a few years ago (otherwise much more of a thriller), I think because of the snowy landscape and the atmosphere . And in Light of my Life, Affleck's sense of characters may be added to that.
Given the undeservedly low rating for this print here, I would say don't be fooled, and give this a chance.

Watched this drama once and it was not bad. It is more of a talk film than a thriller and the film does not contain much action. Still, it manages to captivate, because you don't know what to expect. The story is somewhat reminiscent of other post-apocalyptic films, but this one also deserves its place.
Well acted and it still looked good.
Worth seeing once.

A film with a well-known theme, but Light of My Life does not seek out the sensation. Rather, it is a philosophical film about life questions about ethics, morality, love, communication, parenting, man/woman, trust, ... Beautifully filmed, even though it shines in simplicity. The film is carried by the 2 main characters and time is taken. It produces a beautiful and compelling film. Even if you can't really get through. But on its own it's a pretty good movie.
