I find what The Philosopher thinks. Nice to see Jehnny Beth in a movie, I know it mainly from the pop stage. Rone's soundtrack is also tasty, which could have been given a bigger role in my opinion.

This is truly the best new movie I've seen in theaters in over 10 years, a bit of a cross between two of my favorite movies but with a very different feel. On the one hand, that is Antonio's masterpiece La Notte, mainly because of the visual aspect. But this is even more reminiscent of Hou's homage to Ozu, namely Kôhî Jikô, because of the tempo, the atmosphere sketch in the big city where the city itself also plays a leading role and the environment in which this takes place. Not the fancy, but certainly not the banlieus either.

Visually, this thing is divine. Starting with (and often returning to) the abstract forms of the modern high-rise (this can only be brought forward in black and white), often drenched in atmospheric images of interiors and furthermore full of fun ideas and finds (that dance after a good sex!). With three enormously fascinating characters, all of them oddballs, a wonderful no-nonsense atmosphere and realistic-feeling encounters and especially sex. The actors act very natural and Lucie Zhang is a discovery. Such a subtle smile of joy when she just received a text from a boy who ignores her but contacts again, beautiful. The film has something of a story, but is much more like a wonderful atmospheric sketch of a few people in an area in a certain period of time. All supported by a delightful electronic soundtrack. Everything feels like a film by a millennial that perfectly captures the zeitgeist of wandering thirties in a big city, but the best man can already retire. Incredibly handsome.

La Notte and Kôhî Jikô are a step higher, but I've seen them twice in the cinema and thoroughly enjoyed them both times. 5.0*.

In the 13th arrondissement, also known as 'Les Olympiades', Émilie [Lucie Zhang] embarks on a short-lived, sexual affair with Camille [Makita Samba]. Camille then meets Nora [Noémie Merlant] and begins her relationship which becomes complicated when Émilie discovers she is in love with Camille. Nora's life takes an unpleasant turn when a young man at a nightclub mistakes her for webcam girl Amber Sweet [Jehnny Beth] and she decides to contact Amber herself. Although filmed in stylish black and white, it is about little more than sex and the dividing line between physical desire and a loving relationship.
