Kohayagawa-ke no Aki plot
A portrait of the Kohayagawa family, owners of a small sake brewery in post-war Japan. For the youngest daughter Noriko, a marriage to a man of standing is being prepared, while her sister-in-law Akiko, a widow, is looking for a new husband. Meanwhile, the head of the family, Manbei, regularly visits his former love Tsune and her 21-year-old daughter Yuriko, much to the chagrin of the rest of the family. At a get-together to commemorate the death of his wife, something unexpected happens.
