Indeed a gooey feel-good family film (albeit true) in which every setback is easily overcome and converted into positivity. This of course makes it nowhere gripping (this is not a tearjerker film) but the film does look away nicely. Although it is a family film, it is of course mainly intended for the little ones among us. Despite the fact that the story is nowhere gripping, it was touching at certain moments and that was mainly due to the dolphin Winter, but also because of the very nice pelican (which was actually my favorite in this film). The ending with the real images about this story was also nicely done.

The cast is quite impressive with stars like Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd (always nice to see) and Kris Kristofferson and they all did a nice job but certainly not top notch. The one who especially caught my attention was Betsy Landin as animal caretaker "Kat", who looked very nice.

All in all, just a nice feel-good family film that looks good (especially with a nice dolphin sandwich on the side ).

PS to my surprise I see that there is another part two coming this year, which I actually find a bit weird.

Your average Hollywood family/animal movie for kids. It stays neatly within the well-known patterns of this type of film, it plays it safe, but unfortunately therefore has hardly any originality or added value (except for the true story of the dolphin), which unfortunately makes it a dime a dozen film.

Uncomplicated feelgood to a true story.

Looks nice, nice albatross too, with the never give up morale in it, it is well executed formula work, neatly put together, excellent camera work, Charles Martin Smith is, given his palmares, more of a craftsman than a creative high flyer or a director of the grand gesture. Solid craftsmanship, but fairly interchangeable.

In general I am pleased with the reasonably good acting, especially of the children. Harry Connick Jr. is in my opinion not a best actor, I miss enthusiasm and conviction. Unfortunately, there was too little of Kris Kristoffersen and Morgan Freeman in the film.

It is a great story for him, but it is well presented, characters come to life, only the script in terms of lyrics is very mediocre here and there, that really bothered me sometimes.

All in all, it's worth watching it with your kids. Three-pointer, with a half extra because it really happened.
