The same story told twice from opposite points of view. I've come across that formula before and wasn't very impressed at the time. In fact not now, although the story itself contains more than enough dramatic tension. It doesn't help much that the two protagonists seem anything but sympathetic. It could also be that I wasn't in the right mood for this movie. Maybe that's why I should give it a second chance.

Dramas that revolve around the death of a child, especially when there is a hint of murder, are always very emotionally charged. That is no different here. It is a search for a balance between intense sadness, hatred and resentment on the one hand, but also around forgiveness and rehabilitation on the other. Poppe manages to find this balance, although the film is anything but perfect.

Too much is based on coincidences and reconstructed scenes, especially towards the end where a déjà vu occurs by the water. The film's greatest strengths are its good character development. There is a lot of attention for the characters of Jan and Agnes. The acting is also excellent in the film, which certainly lifts the film to a higher level.

I am certainly not blown away by the film like some others here, but certainly very solid and a small must see for those who like Scandinavian films. And finally, I thought the organ music came into its own in the film. It gave something extra and double meaning to the suffering that Jan has to carry with him every day.
