I'm actually only now realizing that I've watched a mosaic film. Hmm, with that approach I might have experienced the film a bit differently, because I didn't find the story compelling at all. It's contrived and the characters do one naive action after another, much to my chagrin of course. And now I don't have much trouble with the multicultural themes that Fatih Akin deals with here, but here I thought it was all a bit too easy and overblown. It's not as bad as Crash, but I can't give this print a pass .

Tiens, when I saw this movie this weekend, I came to the conclusion that I must have seen at least part of it already. That scene with the thieving teenage scum was all I could remember.

Fascinating film that actually tells the story of 6 main characters, starting from their own world. These six main characters, divided among three parents and their children, are closely intertwined, but never actually touch each other. And I appreciated that about the film: the open ending that probably won't turn into a happy ending, but rather a closed ending where everyone goes their own way.
You have to deal with a lot of drama. Although I have to say that I didn't feel involved at all with the characters, there was nothing wrong with the acting or the story itself. The film tells the story of a failing or at least flawed multi-cultural society in which both cultures live with or mainly side by side.

Strong acting, good editing and sober, honest and engaging plots are the points that will stay with me the most. Not the topper I thought it was, more than adequate for sure.
