A Bright Shining Lie plot
"In war as in life, the difference between truth and deception is what a man allows himself to believe."
Lieutenant Colonel John Paul Vann was one of the first Americans to be appointed as an adviser in Vietnam. He soon realized that his country was fighting on the wrong side. Still, as a marine, he fully fulfilled his task. And that in his own self-assured way and with a razor-sharp vision. Vann grew into a true hero, who did not hide his opinion. After 10 years of fierce fighting, he leaves the army frustrated. He can no longer unite with what is happening. Later, as an American citizen, he returns to Vietnam, the country he loves so much. Just then, the heaviest blows are yet to come!

What a low score for this nice war film
Good story about John Paul Vann who funnily enough did not die in the war but during a helicopter flight in a storm, and the pilot warned
Nicely designed action and actors are also good.

The film was shot in Lompburi, Thailand and Cirebon in Central Java, Indonesia. During the filming, the mayor of Cirebon City appeared at one of the filming locations in Cirebon. Director Terry George also allowed Cirebon City Major Kumaedhi Syafrudin to shoot one of the action sequences for the film. Amy Madigan and Bill Paxton also appeared together in Streets of Fire.
