Roman J. Israel, Esq. plot

"All rise."

"Roman J. Israel, Esq." follows an idealistic, liberal lawyer who has worked hard for the little man for years while others took the credit. After his colleague, the head of the firm, has a heart attack, Roman is forced to act as leader of the firm. He then comes across some troubling revelations about the law firm that negate its good intentions to help the poor and the weak, and finds himself in an existential crisis to act.

Pleasant and humorous manner of Washington as he the lawyer Israel Esq. put down.

The whole comes across beautifully, both the story and the ideals of this gentleman in the superlative, as he himself claimed with Esq. after his name.

But as we often see after years of being faithful to the beliefs, cracks appear. The big money comes into view and unfortunately we often fall down before the god Mammon. Israel could also crash for this, but the story shows whether or not that will happen.

As a note, I'd like to add that I don't understand what the storyline above is claiming: "He then stumbles upon some disturbing revelations about the law firm."

What disturbing revelations are we talking about? Who knows can tell.

Other than that, the film is completely in line with the story. What may be difficult for the viewer(s) is the technical language that is used now and then. But then you walk around that and the film continues without missing anything. Drama, humor and romance alternate.

A big 7.5!

Mmm.

Denzel plays a lawyer who has to step outside his comfort zone due to circumstances and then ends up in a few precarious situations. The best thing about the film is that Denzel plays a different character for once than "I'm a retired hitman, even though I'm only 45, but for an insignificant Russian whore I've only known for five minutes, I'm going to battle again. ".

And he does it well. Roman J. Israel is also a fascinating character and it is commendable that he does not immediately get a label. As a viewer you can gradually judge for yourself what his defect(s) is/are.

The film built around this character is just rather superficial. One and a half exciting scene, a badly acting Colin Farrell whose character turns 180 degrees for no apparent reason and an ending that should give the film a certain gravitas but also fails a bit.

By the way, judging by the poster (haircut and glasses), I thought the movie would be set in the 70s. That seemed to be the case for the first five minutes, until Roman suddenly conjured up a cell phone (an old-fashioned flip-flop, yes, but still).

Denzel as a nerd (who is mentally still in the obstinate 'old' years of activism), we hadn't had that one yet, I think. And he gets away with it. I have now seen the film for the 3rd or 4th time and only now the plot starts to sink in a bit, as far as there is anything to understand. It is of course understandable that he wants to turn himself in for his offence, but yes, it is a murderer that he reported... you can't really care about that either. I don't know if it's all that believable, but there are plenty of intriguing things and scenes in it. And so I leave the 7 (for now).
