Robert Wise made excellent films of various genres, but in the 1950s it was mainly the crime film noirs that were discussed, of which this "Odd against tomorrow" is one of them.

Not a masterpiece, but still well made, with a first hour that pays good attention to the characters and positions of the main characters and then has a pretty exciting ending in store, the final ending (the havoc) perhaps a bit superfluous.

Crime, gambling world, debt burden and poor and not very harmonious family conditions are the backgrounds of the event, while racism, still pertinently present in the States at that time, is also discussed.

Harry Bellafonte, in all his misery, can still sing a blues.

This exciting heist starts with the planning, and ends with the robbery and a spectacular climax. The middle part, in which the private lives are discussed, is somewhat separate from this. New York and the fictional town of Melton form the backdrop. Smoky bars and street lamps in the fog create a dingy atmosphere. Racism is an additional plot element. The most beautiful role is for Harry Belafonte - now 94 years old. The evocative jazz music with vibraphone is by the Modern Jazz Quartet.
