Blown to enjoy.

The only real downside to The Five-Year Engagement is that the playing time is too long. Many a rom-com is not worth seeing, but luckily the humor predominates during the relationship between Blunt and Segel. And so the troubles of love remain worth seeing. The maze of side plots does the film - especially towards the end - not very well, but it remains mainly enjoyable.

Very good.

All over the place.

Bit of a mix of all sorts of things and then some. The piece of drama that comes to the fore in the second part has the least place in it. But the somewhat coarser/dryer moments also don't come out well with a duo like Segel/Blunt in the lead role. They are far too happy for that.

It seems as if Stoller was given a studio film, was not allowed to change anything and therefore only added some of his own work. At times it is quite funny, but mostly boring and routine, during the second part especially the latter starts to dominate.

2+ hours for a vehicle like this is way too much anyway. Could have been condensed into a 90 minute cutscene, minus a lot of unnecessary drama and maybe a slightly more exciting course. Although you already give away a lot with the title itself.

2.0*

“This is your wedding. You only get a few of these.”

Nice movie. Emily Blunt is one of my favorite actresses and here she is again amazing. Segel is solid and makes a good duo with Blunt. It's an Apatow movie, so it's way too long. Especially in the middle section with a depressed Segel, that will take its revenge.

Brie and Pratt have the best supporting roles, but Ifans is also doing well. The scene with Segel chasing Ifans is hilarious. Just like the cookie monster Elmo scene. Great film about a couple who keeps postponing the wedding. An old fashioned rom-com.
