The Big Wedding plot

"It's never too late to start acting like a family."

Don and Ellie Griffin (Robert de Niro and Diane Keaton) are a dysfunctional couple who have been separated for a long time. When their adopted son Alejandro gets married, his religious, biological mother is also invited. To avoid offending the guest of honor at the wedding, Don and Ellie must pretend to be a happily married couple. For Ellie, this is an emotional event as she has to face not only her ex-husband, but also his new girlfriend, Bebe McBride (Susan Sarandon), who was once her best friend.

Average.

De Niro takes over the role of Hoffman in Meet The Fockers. The fun for the elderly in this film is slightly less (although De Niro is still doing well himself, the ladies, on the other hand, are not to be welcomed ...), the fun for me was more with the "children" in the story.

Such a good movie built around a wedding. An accumulation of revelations that seem to have little or no impact on the story and the atmosphere. Everyone is cheating on everyone, but just good friends 5 minutes later. It is mainly some devious, quick comments that often bring a smile. Or little visual jokes, like Williams in bathrobe. It's not top notch, but Zackham makes it work.

Many famous names, rich setting and lots of beautiful weather. It provides a fairly pleasant atmosphere that falters a bit with every bit of drama, but in general it's okay with some well-timed, understated jokes in between.

2.5*

The Big Wedding

One big farce. It's all quite entertaining, but it certainly doesn't stick. The oldies make for the cutest scenes and De Niro, Keaton and Sarandon are fantastic. The rest of the cast joins in for bacon and beans. Even Robin Williams. Criminal underused that man.

Oh well the first part still has something, but gradually it gets corny because everything in the story has to come out very nicely, even if it is far-fetched. The climax to the wedding itself is an understatement. A bit too much of a good thing which makes it seem a bit ridiculous. But I'm not going to completely judge the film on this either. There are also some plus points such as the beautiful location (what a house) and the cool cast. Many acquaintances, both young and old, play their roles convincingly. Although I have to say that the older star cast gives the film some spice. Keaton, De Niro and Sarandon make sure the film doesn't get a grade. 5/10
