Nice Woody Allen...

...or so I thought until I saw the end credits. I'm not familiar with Bogdanovich's work, so I can't say how much this one deviates from his other films or in what direction there may have been some influence, but this film could very well be Allen's.

Lots of dialogue, lots of references to classical(er) culture and a light jazzy soundtrack. Even Poots' accent seems to contribute to the Allen vibe. And also the use of actors who step outside their normal boundaries is typical of Allen's work. You don't usually see Wilson and Aniston in these kinds of films.

Even the story full of coincidences and characters who keep running into each other seems to have rolled out of Allen's pen. It is therefore a bit sour that this film works much better than Allen's films of the last 10 years.

The cast is nice, the atmosphere is cozy and despite the fact that I normally don't like those contrived coincidences it works here. In the near future I'll try another Bogdanovich.

3.5*

Nice film in which a theatre director casts a prostitute in his new play. A fine farce and the storylines and characters come together in a nice way and are also finished off well. It never gets hilarious, but it is entertaining throughout. The cast, with quite a few familiar names, does a nice job.

Although it is clearly not an A-movie and I was really annoyed by Imogen Poots' accent, I found this film surprisingly fun. There are several big names connected to the film and I laughed regularly. And if you like Jennifer Anniston in Horrible Bosses, you will probably like her in this similar role. What is also really nice about these films is that they show how small the world is and how everyone is connected to everyone.
