Ah, Scary Movie; the film that is not allowed to clean the toilet of Naked Gun or Airplane yet, but high-quality comedy has been compared to the Friedberg/Seltzer films. However, there is definitely a difference in quality between the first and this second Scary Movie. This one comes closer to a Friedberg/Seltzer (which amusingly contributed to the first film, but not this one). That first Scary Movie was a big hit, so no doubt they had to come up with a second movie very quickly and you can see that very clearly. The first film tried to tell a somewhat linear story and mainly ridiculed Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. In Scary Movie 2, a slightly more general bet is placed on haunted house films such as The Haunting and House on Haunted Hill, both of which were remade two years earlier.

But, as is often the case in bad comedies, in fact everything is taken from the stable. So we get Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hannibal… basically everything horror comes in. Not only that, there is even an entire scene for a spoof on a Nike ad. And one that isn't funny at all. But despite the fact that many writers are involved, the film is mainly a series of skits. Sketches that take a long time to build up for an often very lame joke. The jokes are too easy and often even things from the first movie are repeated. But to be honest, there are a few elements that were still funny. I mean, James Woods as a priest, David Cross in a wheelchair who doesn't want to be helped, Tim Curry as an old horny cousin or Chris Elliot with his hand… those are still responsible for a smile here and there. But there is nothing more than a smile.

2 stars.

Continuation.

A fairly meaningless series that has gained quite a bit of fame considering it has become such a popular parody of the horror genre. Many horror clichés are therefore ridiculed again, just like with part 1. Is the film very over the top? Sure, but it knows how to use them regularly in a fun way.

It is true that the film is less tight than part 1 and the setting is also less interesting. Moreover, there are now more jokes a miss, so that the film quickly makes a too bland impression. In that it also goes very far in the end, which makes it funny again in one way or another. The film then manages to use that to its advantage.

The acting isn't great. Faris never really wants to be fun in this second part, even though she did have her moments in the first part. Here she seems to be a bit lost, but the other "normal" characters also don't want to be fun. Furthermore, the film chooses a bit too quickly for filth as jokes that really just hit a pig like pliers.

Many horror films can be recognized in this, and it remains fun to pick this one out. That is not difficult, by the way, the film does not make any effort to keep its references out of the picture. Some of the types that play in this are admittedly bland, but insanely fun sometimes. I had a good laugh sometimes, especially with Cross and Elliott.

They do not remain high-quality films, the additions from this series. Still, I find these Scary Movie films infinitely more successful than the attempts of Seltzer and Friedberg. I was actually able to laugh about this, but the film chooses too easily for simplistic humor and less for parody itself. That's why it feels a bit tougher, and I was able to look at it again with pleasure sometimes.

This seems to be a comedy, but I saw nothing but poo, pee and sex humor. And as so often that is the gimmick. Make someone puke and it's funny, think along. But no. Poorly acted otherwise and jokes don't work anywhere, if they are jokes at all. Another try with Scary Movie 4 (with the same creators as the fun part 3 and Airplan!), but this part 2 is pure crap. 0.5*.
