Nah... romance.

Honestly, it's 80% sadness. You get an intro of "those two belong together", an outro type "finally, they choose each other and in between a series of scenes where really hits everything. Self-sabotage, bad luck, the universe ... any excuse that prevents it from happening will come up at some point.

Actually, this should just be a sweet little romantic movie. A little drama is okay, but limited. Visually it certainly seems to want to go in that direction, the film is also at its best during those rare moments, but the rest of the film apparently doesn't want to go along.

Script is really annoying, soundtrack is also nothing more than a collection of stupid hits. Acting is okay and as a central couple it could have been, but the middle part just keeps going and starts to get really annoying after a while. After the umpteenth stupid decision it is difficult to feel any connection with the two.

Probably Ditter has it in him, but then he needs a better script. No idea how the book went, but if that somewhat resembles the course of the film, then it is sadness everywhere.

2.5*

Unforgettable and super-romantic British rom-com/dramedy based on Cecelia Ahern's book 'Where Rainbows End'. The story is about the lifelong friendship between Rosie and Alex. Cinematography: indoor scenes at Rosie or Alex's home, in nightlife, at school parties, weddings, outdoor scenes on the street, in the garden/park, on the beach and at the end of the coast. Use of colour: the colored scenes are alternated with special orange/pink colored scenes. Music: beautiful, appropriate, often a bit sad, but also romantic. Cast with two lead actors: I recognized Sam Claflin from 'Me Before You' (2016), he also has a wonderfully boyish role here and Lily Collins plays the female lead with charm. The chemistry between the two players is very believable. Also some nice supporting characters.

Plot: Rosie and Alex are born on the same day, grow up close to each other and develop an inimitable and lifelong friendship. They confide in each other about everything, except about their feelings towards each other..... And due to a coincidence of circumstances they always miss each other on the love level.....

Message: the film was presented lightly, but it does have a higher message. Express your feelings to others, because guessing them remains difficult. Don't make vital decisions too quickly, because runners are often dead ends. And always keep dreaming.....

It is a wonderful feel-good movie with a happy ending. I liked the original book title 'Where Rainbows End' better than 'Love, Rosie'. Why it was changed in later editions is a mystery to me. I would have preferred the original title, because this one sounds so much nicer!
