L'Auberge Espagnole plot

"They came from Paris, Rome, London and Berlin to… the Spanish Apartment… where a year can change a lifetime."

After college, twenty-seven-year-old Parisian Xavier could start working in the Ministry of Finance with the help of a friend of his father's. However, it is necessary that he masters the Spanish language for this. He therefore decides to spend his last year in Economics with the Erasmus program in Barcelona. With a small heart, he leaves behind his girlfriend Martine and the homely familiar atmosphere in Paris. In Barcelona he will live in an apartment full of Erasmus students of different nationalities. With them, Xavier will have to live and study together for one year, but also gain new experiences at the same time. As the year draws to a close, it becomes very difficult for Xavier to return home…

Nice, recognizable movie.

At least for those who have ever lived in a student house and/or attended a foreign program such as Erasmus and/or been to Barcelona. All three apply to me, although I can imagine that if you haven't experienced those things, it makes the film a lot less interesting.

Other than that, except for the smooth and cartoonish editing, the film doesn't offer much. Don't come here for a well-written story. Despite the recognizable situations, many developments regarding the main character are implausible. Low point is his romance with a married woman. As a result, I immediately lost all sympathy for him, because actually he is a rather egocentric - typical only child - spoiled brat.

Fortunately there are enough other characters to distract things and together with the sunny Spanish atmosphere it is enough for a more than sufficient. 3.5*

Very enjoyable this film that does not make caricatures of the characters and is filled with natural, sad and humorous situations. An "auberge espagnole" is a place where you only find what you put into it. And that's it. An empty apartment, suddenly populated with a number of young people of different nationalities and each with their own "egos" and everything comes to life.

The actors are all very good in their roles. The whole never got boring, the conversations were good and usually funny and everything was very clear.

Solid, smooth film about Erasmus students in Barcelona. On the one hand quite authentic, on the other hand pulled with the hair. The smooth narrative style and camera handling keep it light-hearted and entertaining. The plot is not that special, but the film does have the necessary flair to keep it going. A bit of genre Amélie Poulain or Chocolat where that light-hearted flair is also interwoven throughout the film. Also pleasant to follow with those extra foils to keep it amusing like the scene with it

Erasmus file (accelerated and slowed down images).

As the film progressed I lost some of my focus, partly due to the fact that I had a hard time with certain storylines. Still an OK movie nonetheless.
