“Would you call me selfish?”

“No, not to your face.”

Clueless is fun. I used to be a fan of Alicia Silverstone, and it's a shame she's nowhere to be seen these days and she's kind of faded into oblivion. She has the charisma and charm to wear these kinds of films, just like Reese Witherspoon, for example, but she can also handle the more serious work.

It remains a joy to watch Silverstone play the optimistic, naive and narcissistic Cher. The film has many memorable quotes and the script by Amy Heckerling is wonderfully put together. The humor, the music, the chemistry between the actors, etc. It's all superbly done. Silverstone and Paul Rudd have a great chemistry and Silverstone's interaction with Dash, Murphy, Faison and Walker is also very funny at times. Special mention to Dan Hedaya, who, as Cher's father, provides some highlights. The whole high school thing has been done a hundred thousand times before, but here it still feels fresh and original.

poor.

Third time lucky. After first having seen Legally Blond and then Mean Girls, I finally got my hands on the biggest girly high school cult movie. It should come as no surprise that I ended up finding this the least of the three. Heckerling has a positive image for some, I myself have very little with her films.

The 90s, meanwhile hopelessly dated, but there will be several flare-ups of that era in the coming years. Don't find it very interesting to see it all again, especially not in an American high school setting. And certainly not when the execution is also quite lukewarm.

Because this film clearly lacks some sharpness, especially after having seen Mean Girls earlier this week. Bland characters, it's all pretty good, a very corny last half hour and meager acting. Such a Silverstone really has very little appearance, something that these kinds of films rely on. Other than that, it's just a really easy romantic comedy.

A good joke here and there, but far too little to fill a 90-minute film. There's not much more to admire here than some kitschy 90s nonsense, you just don't really make me happy with that.

1.5*
