The Breakfast Club plot

"They only met once, but it changed their lives forever."

A group of students has to stay in detention on Saturday morning. No one has a friend to another and everyone is there for different reasons. The assignment they are given is to write an essay, in dead silence and without changing places. At the beginning of the morning they still do that, but soon they make a mess of it. Gradually, they discover that they have more in common than they thought.

Ugh.

Annoying film where I actually had no idea what the intention behind this Breakfast Club was while watching. We've got a motley (well, white-fur) collection of annoying kids and a teacher's jerk. They are stuck together at school, on a Saturday.

The glands are a bit annoying to the teacher (and each other), the teacher just joins in being jerky. The result is a film without fun, engaging or interesting characters who are annoying to each other for 100 minutes and just whine at each other.

Visually it is nothing at all, it seems as if the film wants to throw everything at the mutual relationships. But the characters are so clichéd and constructed that any credibility is already gone during the opening scene. Characters like "the criminal", the "sporto" or "the nerd" are really to cry on, especially when a lot of bad acting is involved to try to make them more human.

Perhaps people can identify with one of the youngsters or something? Anyway, I found it all very annoying. Absolutely not sympathetic, very transparent and regularly annoying. I'd prefer Hughes' lighter work.

1.0*

I understand some of the low scores. Especially if you're under 20. For people over 40, this is a classic. The music, clothing, environment, language, etc. In the eighties everything was just a bit more clumsy. Not a hip, fast time. Delicious. No internet, mobile phones, etc. So a high score for me. great movie!

Out of boredom and nostalgia watched this 80's cult classic in the cinema, not realizing that I like it even better than what I could remember. A simple but otherwise well-developed concept of five hormonal adolescents, who, being held hostage by insecurity, stereotyping and social pressure, discover that they are not so different from each other after all. The fine chemistry between the 'Brat Pack' produces over an hour and a half of humor and drama. No Breakfast Club, I'm certainly not going to forget you.
