Oops, chapter so many in the never-ending saga: 'Kos picks the wrong movie'. .

After a rather busy weekend and with a moderate physical condition I thought: Come on, let me indulge in a nice old-fashioned Roman spectacle film.

So my mood didn't exactly improve when I soon discovered that it was actually a film adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and I was quickly bombarded with dry, theatrical old English monologues. .

Admittedly, after having hesitated for a while to turn it off, but having continued to watch it anyway, it turned out that the film did have its qualities, although it is still definitely not what I was looking for.

The film has some downright brilliant scenes with the long drawn out speeches to the people by Brutus and Mark Antony. The cast is also incredibly strong, although Brando looks a bit clumsy.

I like the man very much, but in a Shakespeare film between the likes of James Mason and John Gielgud... No, not a very nice choice.

All in all probably a fine film if you like this sort of thing. I'll revisit it in a better mood.

Ps And my love for Greer Garson blossomed again.

Let me admit that I had no idea that Shakespeare had written a play about Caesar…and therefore had no idea that this was part of the BBC short series of films (also featuring Richard III and Henry V) that did not exactly make me a Shakespeare fan, to be honest.

I can always appreciate the very theatrical acting style of the Brits, but I've had enough of all the 'good morning's and 'betwixt's'.

It remains funny that in 2024 I watched a 1953 film adaptation of a 1599 play about an event from 44 BC.
