Blonde plot

"Watched by all, seen by none."

After a traumatic childhood, Norma Jeane Mortenson grows into a movie star and sex symbol in 1950s Hollywood. She became world famous under the pseudonym Marilyn Monroe. But the clean appearance on the silver screen contrasts sharply with the love problems, exploitation, abuse of power and drug addiction she faces in her private life.

I've been a huge Marilyn fan since I was a kid. Watched almost all her movies and read a lot of books about her life. That's why I was really looking forward to this movie. Ana de Armas plays Marilyn very well, every now and then I thought I was looking at the real Marilyn. Really very well done. But I think Marilyn talked a little less panting in her private life. I thought the movie was very well made. Especially because there were also black and white scenes in it. And I thought the movie scenes like Don't bother to knock, Niagara, Gentlemen prefer blondes and The Seven year itch, Some like it hot were so beautifully executed. Precisely imitated in the details. Also the photo shoots really hats off. It's just not really a movie that makes you happy, but that wasn't Marilyn's life either. And found some scenes a bit too long-winded. So just not five stars. But well worth it if you are a fan of Marilyn Monroe. Even though there is a lot of fiction in this film, Marilyn fans will recognize some parts well.

Blonde is an atypical biopic that, unlike most films in the genre, shows a rise & fall with a best of of songs or movies, some flashbacks and the necessary drama. The film actually goes back to the death of Monroe and the maker tries to show in more than 2 hours how it is that one of the greatest film legends of the 50s and 60s where seemingly the whole world was at her feet, went down mentally to stay 36 forever.

Ana de Armas is brilliant in the title role. I thought in some scenes that archive footage had been used, but it's all acted. The story shows the hard side of Hollywood. Some critics found the approach sexist and disrespectful. But wasn't that the environment in which Norma Jean grew up? Hollywood didn't always have the greatest respect for female movie stars and there were more Weinstein figures walking around. In my view, the film shows just how well Marilyn Monroe was not a prank diva, but that her life was actually a constant struggle. You should also see Blonde as an image and not always as pure facts. That's what documentaries are for. Although the truth may not have been far from Blonde...

I mentioned that Blonde isn't exactly your typical biopic and viewers will no doubt be divided as well. Perhaps a bit long and a bit too chaotic, but the film does dare to color outside the lines creatively. Ana de Armas is great, just like many other actors. Cinematography of Chayse Irvin and the music of Nick Cave & Warren Ellis are delightful. You are sometimes a bit hungry and the chaotic approach is sometimes a disadvantage. But above all, it is an interesting and beautiful film.
