Phew.

What you usually get with these kinds of films is that the visual doesn't amount to much anymore 10 years later. But Narnia has deteriorated very sharply. Not only does it often look very fake, it just doesn't look nice. In terms of soundtrack it's just bad, but that's hardly surprising for a large, modern fantasy film.

But the death blow is the dry, uninspired fantasy that is woven throughout the film. Now I believe it is an old(er) story, but that does not suddenly make it fun or interesting. But some talking animals, an ice queen (in a seriously stupid package) and some well-known mythical creatures make absolutely no fun fantasy world.

The cast does not act too well, including the children and in terms of plot there is also something wrong with it. Nice that there are some dramatic moments halfway through, but they are soon completely nullified. Those kinds of things tell you what kind of target audience you're dealing with. Anything but fun.

Mno, a children's fantasy that has not been executed in a creative and/or atmospheric way. A few scenes that evoke a little bit of amazement, but you have to look hard for them in the 140 minutes of soggy ugliness and dullness.

A sweet and entertaining fantasy film; as an adult, he seems perfect for the youthful target audience, although I wonder if Aslan's humiliation and the accompanying monsters wouldn't cause a nightmare or two for some over-juvenile viewers - but oh well , which is why the film is intended for 12 years and older. For myself there is just too little meat; the plot is a bit too simple, the characters are for the most part too one-dimensional, and while Georgie Henley plays Lucy very well, the actors speaking to the three older children are too bland to make much of an impression (and in the case of Anna Popplewell as Susan also extremely irritating with always the same grumpy look). Also, Narnia doesn't feel like a "real" country, appearing to be a petite 50 by 50 km area with half a dozen inhabitants, Santa Claus is a silly apparition, and during the climactic battle, too many enemies don't look like unsavory things. monstrosity but on comic strip monsters meant to be funny.
So I'm left with a cute fairytale movie that I don't really get involved in as an adult. James McAvoy and Tilda Swinton do give the film some weight, but the former is unfortunately quickly sacrificed and the latter just doesn't get enough space in her role to fully utilize her not inconsiderable abilities. However, the bickering beavers are fantastically animated and hilarious, and what a shame that the masterful Rupert Everett as the fox hasn't been given a little more talking time...

In Christian Netherlands, The Chronicles of Narnia were presented as the moral counterpart of LotR and Harry Potter.

Logical too, given the countless references to ancient Christianity.

From a technical point of view, I think it's all very thin. In terms of SFX I had hoped for more, some characters and scenes were made too childish so I could take the whole thing less seriously. At least it didn't take me to this secret world.

I also found the cast slightly disappointing, Henley was just annoying. All in all I can just give it a pass, but I can conclude that this film is not for me. *3.0
