Popeye plot

"The sailor man with the spinach can!"

Popeye arrives at the rundown seaside village of Sweet Haven. There he meets Wimpy, a man obsessed with hamburgers, Olive Oyl, the future love of his life, and Bluto, a big, villainous pirate who is out to make 'Sweet Haven' pay for no reason at all. Popeye also finds his long-lost Pappy amid it all.

Brilliantly filmed Popeye, as a kind of homage. Excellent casting and music with songs to match. In a few decades we will probably think differently about this production. Original sets, clothes, really special. What a great 'Olive'... Popeye: I yam what I yam...

Little laugh. A busy overacted lot with horribly out of tune singing, especially when Duvall and Williams are featured. Robin Williams puts down a mumbling Popeye but what am I supposed to think? Can't get through with it I'll just say. The cartoonish nature of the film is nicely done in itself and that's where the film gets points for me, but it fails to hold the attention and lapses into incessant chatter. Popeye just works better as a cartoon.
