Taras Bulba plot
"A love story of flesh and fire!"
18th century. Cossacks have a reputation of being the best fighters in the world, so the Polish army enlists their help against the Turkish sultan. He tries to expand his Ottoman Empire by also annexing Poland. After the victory, however, the Cossacks are driven apart and massacred by the Poles. The embittered Colonel Taras Bulba raises his sons, Andreï and Ostap, as real soldiers and teaches them to distrust Poland. Andreï and Ostap are forced by their father to study in Kiev. They are not allowed to return home until they are really permeated by Polish thinking and acting. In Kiev, Andreï meets the governor's daughter Natalia and falls for her charms. Andrei will have to choose: his people or his love for Natalia.
