Liked him quite a bit, but maybe this is because I was in the right mood (read had a corny mood). Masterminds is a fairly subtle comedy centered around one joke (how is it possible that some very simple souls can commit such a successful heist?), and some often somewhat implausible, deliberately overstated characters. Certainly not a film where you are constantly in a dent, but more one that you can watch with a sincere big smile. Galifianakis is almost unnoticed very good for this kind of film, Wiig gives a nice counterplay. Fortunately, the often annoying Wilson doesn't have much to do, but looks uninspired and never convinces as a bad guy. Still pretty good all in all.

Certainly successful as a comedy because there are a lot of laughable scenes or situations in the film. And in this genre you don't come across this very often nowadays. In addition, the story is very fun and light-hearted to follow. I also found the cast an added value here because they portray their characteristic characters well in a playful way. Better than expected. 7/10

Quite fun.

With these films it is always a question of whether you are dealing with a real comedy, or whether one of the subgenres will prevail. Seen a lot of action/comedies and dramadies in recent years, but the purebred comedies are rather sparse. Even a cast like this no longer gives any guarantees.

Fortunately none of this here, Masterminds is a rather simple film that keeps the bit of romance, drama and action in the margins and aims for light-hearted fun to easily fill 90 minutes. It is therefore not very serious, Galifianakis in particular feels clearly in his sas. Although the supporting roles are certainly not bad either.

Sunny atmosphere, left and right a pretty successful joke and a limited playing time. But especially not a last hour that gets a lot more serious. The film just remains 90 minutes of unadulterated lightness, which is absolutely commendable.

3.0*
