My expectations were not set high in advance, but it turned out not to be low enough.
It was quite a challenge for me to watch the film.
I have had to suppress the urge to turn off the Blu-ray player several times.
The first time during the digital violence with the helicopters.
To get bored of it.
Too much is never good in my opinion, and that is the major problem this film suffers from.
Everything is overlaid on it, nuance is missing, no form of charm (the original King Kong had that)
The explosions and the (useless) shooting go on and on until you get tired of it.
You don't get any connection with the actors and actresses, at most a little with John C. Reilly (Hank Marlow)
Brie Larson made the most faded impression of all the actresses who ever played in a King Kong film, or rather: no impression at all.
Kong didn't really do much for me either.
No, this is not a movie for me.
I don't need a Kong movie anymore.

This movie flew under my radar at first. I saw it as Kong reincarnation numero so much, and only recently found out that it's part of the most interesting new Godzilla franchise, which I secretly think is a guilty pleasure.
With the movie "Godzilla vs Kong" on the horizon, I thought it was time to check this one out too.
And I didn't regret it. Sets are beautiful, monsters are highly imaginative and you just get what you sit down for - and more. Samuel L. Jackson can go wild again. A group of scientists wants a military escort to Skull Island. You expect two helicopters, but the escort looks more like an invasion force. That's willing cannon fodder for Kong, of course, who's going to play baseball with helicopters.
The huge ensemble cast then, of course, suffers heavy losses, which comes in handy with friends ("whoever guesses the next dead mistake has to get new beer"). John C. Reilly provides the happy note.
And Brie Larson wears a shoulder bag with the strap between her breasts for most of the film. What else do you want?

The well-known story of King Kong, although in terms of story it is not just a copy of the previous King Kong films. The common thread is, of course, retained. Kong: Skull Island is a well-maintained blockbuster that can count on a fascinating cast and, above all, is visually very nicely decorated. Did Godzilla have some doubts in terms of film, this King Kong film helps the shared monster universe a lot. For me that forced universe is not necessary, but it is not that you can only see this film if you have also seen Godzilla. Nice movie!
