This film really is a textbook example of great rubble and a hodgepodge par excellence. The whole story is messy and therefore very boring to follow. The twist should make up for a lot, but that was too late for me. Jean-Claude Van Damme and his son do not really show here that they are positively reunited on the silver screen.

The makers are clearly fans of 'The Usual Suspects'. Story is set up in the same way as that classic (including the surprise twist at the end, which is not really credibly completed in this Van Damme film. ). If you imitate something so beautiful, you have to make sure that the quality is a few levels better than this Van Damme vehicle, because even for die hard fans of the Belgian muscle, this will turn out to be just a bad movie. The in itself simple story is slow, except for the occasional fight, there is actually little to experience. Looks all very cheap in terms of setting, more of a film that seems to come from the eighties / nineties of the last century, than that it has anything to do with the modern action film. What also doesn't help is that they have opted for a flashback structure that often comes across as clumsy and insignificant. Those constant jumps forward and backward in time become quite annoying after a while, and add nothing essential to the film. Van Damme himself looks quite old and on his way out, hopefully before his retirement he will come to his senses and deliver one more straightforward action film with a somewhat more intelligent and ambitious script than that used for this contrived and bland performance.

After an outbreak of deadly violence at the local hospital, nurse Suzanne [Auumn Reeser] is questioned by two FBI agents [Peter Stormare, Maria Conchita Alonso]. They want to find out if and why she tried to protect mercenary Phillip [Jean-Claude van Damme]. It all has to do with the shady practices of Russian gangster brothers Radovan [Daniel Bernhardt] and Zoran Brokowski [Kieran Gallagher]. In flashbacks we see how things got out of hand in badly edited action sequences and there's the dutifully stupid plot twist that makes you wonder why you've been watching the previous one. Reeser is OK in the lead role and Van Damme occasionally shows some of his acting talent (which he does have), but this is just formulaic pulp.
