I found it all quite boring. The zeitgeist is nicely done, but that's where it ends for me. It's a kind of syrup that you can't get through. There is little to nothing to laugh about and there is no drama. I'm not much of a Zellweger fan, so maybe that's in the back of my mind. I don't think that much botox can be injected with it. The part "ich gebe auf" in the 1st WW I had to chuckle. I could see it all in front of me, if that really happened haha.

The whole is nothing innovative and the script is very predictable. Nowhere will you be surprised. Too bad, because I think movies about sports are generally worth watching.

Clooney had almost the right recipe for a strong screwball comedy with Leatherheads. In any case, the setting is correct, complete with great decoration and beautiful cinematography that provide a warm atmosphere. The casting is strong, with many characteristic heads and actors who can carry this form of comedy well, including Clooney himself, of course, but also Zellweger, who fits better than I expected. Unsurprisingly, then, the film comes off well every now and then, especially in some delightful dialogues, such as the one at Clooney and Zellweger's meeting.

Unfortunately, this isn't exactly the level of the entire movie. In fact, the really good moments are sparse and scattered throughout the entire playing time. What Leatherheads lacks is a good script that extends beyond a nice dialogue here and there. The story does not get off the ground and therefore does not manage to ensure that there are really funny developments that turn things upside down. Instead, it just makes for an easy fight between Clooney and Krasinski, with which I oddly sympathized with the latter more despite the film treating him as an antagonist. In fact, I had the feeling that Zellweger cared more about him than Clooney, though apparently he didn't mean to. That's the problem with the movie. Nicely made, but poorly executed. Too bad, because I was secretly expecting something from this.

Quite fun.

No idea where the whole screwball comedy story comes from, but I didn't really get that vibe from this movie. I know screwball comedies as noisy, busy films that try to be sharp and sharp all the time, Leatherheads is more of a sluggish film with a nice lame wink. Kind of like Clooney himself.

Okay, the setting has a bit of it of course, and every now and then there's a slightly flashier dialogue, but it feels like one wants to make a connection that just isn't there. I wonder if they promoted the film that way, or if some writers got away with it.

In any case, a film you would expect from Clooney. Charming to the bone, but also a bit slick and volatile. That might not be a bad combination for a sports film. I've seen a few movies in this genre that lean more towards drama and that never really works out well. I'd rather have a smoother film with a twist here and there.

It passes the time very easily, Clooney is really the man to make these kinds of films smoothly. Not a great masterpiece, but very entertaining and easy entertainment.
