Mask plot
"They told 16 year old Rocky Dennis he could never be like everyone else. So he was determined to be better."
Rusty Dennis is a sober woman and leads an eventful and wild life. She is also the mother of Rocky who is severely disfigured in his face due to an illness. Rusty believes that her son, who is difficult for strangers to accept because of his appearance, should be given the same opportunities in society as everyone else.

Mask is a strong drama, which fortunately does not become too sentimental. The film is supported by strong acting performances by the entire cast. Cher in particular surprised me, and pleased me much more than she did in the movie Moonstruck. Comparisons with The Elephant Man are easily made, but in my view that is not justified. Both are good movies, but not comparable at all. The setting is different and the circumstances of both characters are completely different. Although Mask remained somewhat superficial, the film is by no means weak.

Certainly a poignant film about a very unusual disease but an all too tearful and over-friendly atmosphere.
Don't understand the mother's lifestyle and certainly not her behavior when she discovers her son is dead in bed. She immediately smashes the place where it would normally have been human to call for help.
I think Sam Elliott is a mushy would-be cleverly playing his part and Cher is acting for the gallery. I like Laura Dern..
