Shi Shen Ling plot
The world is on the brink of a devastating war with monsters coming to retrieve the Scaling Stone. Yin Yang master Qingming's life is in danger and he travels to different worlds to prepare for the expected attacks. During his journey, Qingming discovers that the cure for all disasters is to embrace his hybrid identity of man and monster.

Nice fantasy movie. The story is fairytale-like and unsurprising. The effect is reasonable. The beginning of the film is the strongest. The film has a good structure and we are working towards a nice finale. But unfortunately... the ending is a bit disappointing. Slightly overdone so it's just not exciting. Furthermore, the film balances between very childish and 16+, which doesn't feel right. Visually, the film looks great with beautiful characters. Sometimes a little too much computer work. Other than that just an entertaining film with enough tension and action. 3.0/3.5

Yin-Yang Master (2020) versus The YinYang Master (2021) are confusing titles and thanks to joolstein it becomes a bit clearer that the first film focuses more on the Japanese novel and short story series Onmyōji and the second film also focuses on those stories by Japanese writer Baku Yumemakura, but focuses more on popular games about this. Unfortunately, that is unknown territory for me to say something about that. In addition, the same main characters in both films, namely Qingming and Boya. It makes it all even more complex.
But this film, The YingYang Master (2021), manages to pleasantly surprise in the sense that the film has more to offer than those typical Asian fights. It's more like a fairytale given the world of monsters and beautiful animated creatures. The creatures sometimes look very cool, but sometimes also over the top eg the red devil. That makes some action scenes hilarious or very silly. It's how you look at it yourself and are open to it. Kudos to the cinematography, the sets and the visual effects. A direct hit in terms of fantasy and entertainment. The thoughts of Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek....it all came through one way or another. 7/10
