Schneller als die Angst season 1

The German drama with the wonderful title Schneller als die Angst / Faster than Fear, is hopefully not indicative of the development of the German Polizei series cinema since Tatort (1145 episodes) and Derrick (25 years). Detective Sunny Becker (Friederike Becht) hunts down serial killer and rapist André Haffner (an over-acting Felix Klare, with striking resemblance to Götz 'Schimanski' George). In episode 1 you know roughly what to expect. Confirmation will follow in episode 6. Besides all kinds of obligatory subplots, the storyline of Sunny Becker's own trauma is still the most interesting.

Faster than Fear is not only predictable, but also flat, nowhere really exciting and one-dimensional; your intelligence is not being called upon here. The swishing and restless camera work gets on your nerves and is even laughable when, to everyone's surprise, the camera shoots out of the bushes. The serial killer himself, with his life-size tattoos (yawn) and skipping in string (to keep the bottom tattoo visible), is more of a parody of the genre than an iconic meat master.

We sometimes complain about the quality of Dutch and Flemish series. Not entirely wrong. Judging by Faster than Fear, we can also embrace the Germans in our arms.
