Nice miniseries with a cast that is quite familiar to me. I'm not familiar with the book, but I always appreciate these kinds of crime stories. Visually it also looked beautiful. In the end, I didn't think the denouement was good enough for a better grade.

A strong version with warm-blooded performances by an impressive cast, in which, in addition to the as usual perfectly cold Charles Dance, I especially enjoyed Miranda Richardson's godly and haughty society lady. The beautiful visuals create a threatening atmosphere that is further enhanced by a great soundtrack with a beautiful soundtrack by Stuart Earl. I do think three hours is a bit too long for this story; I'm mostly used to the 1966 version myself, and I still prefer it because of the pace and the twist of the "romantic" ending. Enjoyed nonetheless; nice how such a plot is so strong that it can endure different versions with different nuances and interpretations for other generations without ever getting exhausted, just like A Christmas carol and The hound of the Baskervilles.
