Used to watch an episode now and then, believe my brother even had the whole series on video tape but never bothered to watch the whole series. For lack of anything better, it was about time.

I actually got tired of 'De Meester' pretty quickly, I didn't think the story was that great, while the whole season in general is about that. This season, however, looks nice and that is mainly because of everything outside that story. I kind of feel like this season is mostly focused on getting to know the characters and the different monsters that roam around, really just getting used to everything the series has to offer. I am now halfway through with the second season and I like it a lot better so far. Some more depth in the characters, where it is all a bit flat in this season. This may also be due to the fact that this season has fewer episodes than the other seasons and was therefore somewhat more limited.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is indeed the star of the show, she plays her role as Buffy superbly, making the rest quickly come across as a bit more mediocre. No one is really bad, but it is clear that the series is carried by Gellar. I have to say that I find this in the second season a little less. More fascinating characters who are added and the other (permanent) cast seems to have found their place better there as well. Not yet in this season, so I will include that in my assessment of this season.

It still gets a good enough score, it looks great and such a season is no problem either. You have some time to get to know all the regular characters well. However, I doubt I would have had the patience to wait for an episode every week, this season is a bit on the slow side for that.
