Under the Bridge plot

British Columbia, 1997. Fourteen-year-old Reena Virk is an outsider who is often bullied. Despite this, she is invited to go to a party on a bridge. However, Reena doesn't come home the next day and something horrible has happened there. The community becomes torn and then causes the neighbors to question each other. It isn't long before seven teenage girls and a boy are accused of murder. Canadian writer and journalist Rebecca Godfrey, who is in the area to research her first book, becomes involved in the investigation.

Gebaseerd op ware gebeurtenissen. Deze miniserie volgt onder andere Rebecca Godfrey bij haar onderzoek naar de moord op Reena Virk en het schrijven van haar boek hierover. Helaas heeft Rebecca Godfrey de verfilming van dit boek niet meer mee mogen maken (Rebecca Godfrey - Wikipedia). Prima cast waarbij de tieners erg goed de diverse karakters neerzetten. Aflevering 4 vond ik iets teveel van het goede; dat had wat meer verwerkt mogen worden in de flashbacks, die er toch al genoeg waren en waarbij het soms goed opletten was in welke periodes zich deze afspeelden.

Based on true events. This miniseries follows Rebecca Godfrey as she investigates the murder of Reena Virk and writes her book about it. Unfortunately, Rebecca Godfrey did not live to see the film adaptation of this book (Rebecca Godfrey - Wikipedia). Excellent cast with the teenagers portraying the various characters very well. I thought episode 4 was a bit too much; that could have been incorporated a little more into the flashbacks, which were already enough and sometimes required careful attention to which periods they took place.

Sterk achtdelig Amerikaans drama gefilmd in Canada, over de verdwijning van een 14-jarige tiener in 1997. De hoofdrol wordt gespeeld door Riley Keough (kleindochter van Elvis Presley) in haar rol als Rebecca Godfrey. Under the Bridge is een gedramatiseerd en waargebeurd verhaal op basis van het boek dat Godfrey hier zelf over schreef. Wat Under the Bridge zo goed maakt is dat - naast het intense verhaal als mysterythriller - bijna alle hoofdrolspelers imperfect zijn. Geen scherpe lijnen tussen goed of fout maar eerlijke, realistische karakters. De soundtrack is oner andere van rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie), die overleed in 1997. Under the Bridge is een indrukwekkend monument over gebroken gezinnen en verloren dromen, ergens onder een brug in Canada.

The lead role is played by Riley Keough (granddaughter of Elvis Presley) in her role as Rebecca Godfrey. Under the Bridge is a dramatized and true story based on the book that Godfrey wrote about it himself. What makes Under the Bridge so good is that - in addition to the intense story as a mystery thriller - almost all the main characters are imperfect. No sharp lines between good and bad but honest, realistic characters. The soundtrack is among others by rapper The Notorious BIG (Biggie), who died in 1997. Under the Bridge is an impressive monument to broken families and lost dreams, somewhere under a bridge in Canada.
