Rich Man, Poor Man plot

Based on the book Rich Man, Poor Man by American author Irwin Shaw, the series chronicles the history of the Jordache immigrant family from 1945 through the late 1960s. The focus is on the rich Rudy and the poor Tom Jordache. Both brothers are in love with the same woman, the beautiful Julie Prescott. Julie is hopelessly in love with Rudy but initially marries someone else. Although both brothers find their way in life, neither are happy.

Een van de beste dramaseries in de geschiedenis van de tv over de belevenissen van de gebroeders Tom en Rudy Jordache. De twee broers verschillen als dag en nacht. Rudy is de serieuze studiebol die duidelijk weet waar hij naar toe wil en de juiste stappen zet om er te komen. Hij wordt uiteindelijk senator. Tom is een vrijbuiter die het pad des levens bewandeld zonder plan en alles neemt zoals het komt. Hij heeft allerhande baantjes van bokser tot matroos. Tijdens zijn werk als matroos zal hij zijn nemesis Anthony Falconetti ontmoeten. De serie is gebaseerd op het gelijknamige boek van Irwin Shaw en kon rekenen op een goede cast met Nick Nolte en Peter Strauss in de hoofdrollen en bijrollen van Ed Asner, Bill Bixby en Susan Blakely. De meest memorabele bijrol is voor William Smith als Falconetti, een van de ergste bullies ooit in een tv-serie.

Rudy is the serious student who clearly knows where he wants to go and takes the right steps to get there. He eventually becomes a senator. Tom is a freebooter who walks the path of life without a plan and takes everything as it comes. He has all kinds of jobs from boxer to sailor. While working as a sailor, he will meet his nemesis Anthony Falconetti. The series is based on the book of the same name by Irwin Shaw and could count on a good cast with Nick Nolte and Peter Strauss in the lead and supporting roles of Ed Asner, Bill Bixby and Susan Blakely. The most memorable supporting role is for William Smith as Falconetti, one of the worst bullies ever in a TV series.
